Training to Improve Entrepreneurial Ability of the Pariaman Region Youth Association: A Community Service Program

Community Service Activities are again held by Padang State University which is packaged in the form of a Community Partnership Program (PKM). PKM is a form of community service developed by LPM Padang State University. This program facilitates community service activities by lecturers / researchers at Padang State University in the form of community empowerment activities that are problem solving, comprehensive, meaningful, thorough, and sustainable.
PKM which was held from 2 – 26 July 2020 by UNP through Lecturers of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Padang State University in collaboration with the Youth Association of Cubadak Air Village and the Village of West Sikapak, Pariaman Utara, Kota Pariaman who has a strong desire to become entrepreneurs in the field of manufacturing coffee powder. This activity is a training activity for making robusta and arabica coffee powder with a variety of flavors and aromas. The purpose of holding this PKM activity is to improve the capacity of the community members of the youth association in the field of making coffee powder using roasting technology using a coffee roasting machine fueled by LPG. In addition to providing knowledge about various types of coffee materials, training materials for selecting raw coffee beans or green coffee beans, coffee processing techniques and coffee grinding and packing techniques, participants were also given insight on how to grow and manage a coffee powder business, marketing management and financial administration. At the end of the activity, it is hoped that the participants will have a business in making coffee powder with various characteristics and variations in taste and aroma that can be marketed to the public.

This community service is packaged in the 2020 UNP Community Partnership Program (PKM) scheme which is funded through the Directorate of Research and Community Service, Ministry of Research and Technology / National Agency for Research and Innovation chaired by Dr. Ir. Arwizet K., ST., MT. consisting of Mr. Zainal Abadi, S.Pd., M.Eng and Sri Rizki Putri Primandari, ST., MT., Ph.D and two students who acted as supporting staff. To further sharpen the understanding of the training participants, the instructor was asked to make a coffee powder business practitioner and a coffee cafe owner from Padang City, namely Mr. Ir. Fajri, SP. He is the owner of Resto / CafĂ© Duo Pintu Coffee on Jl. l. Dr. Moh. Hatta No.02, Ps. Ambacang, Kec. Kuranji, Padang City, West Sumatra.


Arwizet K as the head of the Community Service Team, in his direction at the opening ceremony, expressed his gratitude to the Cubadak Air Youth Association and West Sikapak for collaborating with UNP Padang so that this activity was held. Mr. Dr. Khairuddin, M. Kes, AIFO (Secretary of LP2M) who was also present at the opening ceremony of this training activity expressed his gratitude to all parties for holding this event and the need for continuity between the UNP campus and the community in improving community skills. The same statement was also expressed by Mr. Abdul Hamid as the head of Cubadak Air Village,
